 MOOD SWINGS

OVERVIEW

An abrupt change in mood or emotional state.

COMMON CAUSES

Mood swings can be normal, and are only an indicator of underlying disease when feelings become excessive, all-consuming and interfere with daily living.

What do mood swings feel like?

mood swing is simply a noticeable change in one's mood or emotional state. Everybody has mood swings and they are a natural part of most people's lives. We get happy, we get sad. We have a period of feeling on top of the world, and then later in the same day, we feel tired, lethargic and beaten down.

What mental disorder causes mood swings?

Whilst everyone experiences mood swings to a certain degree, extreme mood swings can be characteristic of mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, and are a symptom of other mental illnesses including schizoaffective disorder and personality disorders.

Why am I so moody and angry all the time?

Many factors can cause or contribute to irritability, including life stress, a lack of sleep, low blood sugar levels, and hormonal changes. Extreme irritability, or feeling irritable for an extended period, can sometimes indicate an underlying condition, such as an infection or diabetes.
